Our People

Board of Directors

ACT is run by 10 Board of Directors and has a Management Team Governance model.  Each Board member is administered a specific duty when it comes to the organization’s operations management (ex. human resources, fundraising, finance, planning and programs management).   We have no paid staff members (unless we have grant funds for paid positions on specific projects).  We are run by a group of dedicated, eager volunteers who want to be a part of the growth of the Windsor-Essex performing arts community.

Mentors

Chris Rabideau – Artistic Director & Mentor

Chris is honoured to be part of the ACT family. As a community-engaged artist and advocate, he’s had the great fortune to work as a director, producer, performer, playwright, and educator with various communities, not-for profit organizations and educational institutions in Windsor – Essex County, creating theatre-based performances and projects that address social justice issues.

ACT’s programs showcase the importance of promoting and encouraging artistry and he believes it is important that we support, mentor, and enrich the lives of Windsor Essex through the arts.

Moya McAlister – Marketing, Fundraising, and Promotions Director & Mentor

Moya’s passion for the arts is what pushed her to become a part of the ACT family, and she is honoured to lend her expertise to the growth and development of the organization.

Moya is a full-time marketing professional, a not-for-profit Management Consultant, Board Secretary for the Black Women of Forward Action, Co-Host of the YourTV Cogeco talk show “Talkin’ Real Melanin” and she sits on multiple committees for not-for-profit organizations in Windsor-Essex County.

What Moya loves most about ACT is that it truly represents and is reflective of the community in which we reside. It strives for excellence in everything it produces and each artist who works with us, always leaves saying we’ve changed their lives in some way and tell us how much they’d like to work with us again.

Leslie McCurdy – Technical Dance Instructor & Mentor

I enjoy working as a mentor with Arts Collective Theatre for several reasons. First, the “team” is outstanding! I think the artistic director is brilliant! Chris Rabideau is one of the most talented young directors I’ve ever worked with. His vision and artistry as a director are refreshing, plus he knows how to surround himself with people who aspire towards excellence in their craft.  I like that a high level of commitment and performance is expected form the young people that are involved so that they are prepared and know what will be required if they choose to compete in “the real world” of performing artistry. Finally, as a Black Canadian, I like that there is the practice of “non-traditional” casting. Too often people of colour are left out when casting decisions are based upon what is “normal” and ACT makes it a point of trying to blur those lines by casting without regard to race, ethnicity, gender, etc. Ultimately, I am proud to be a part of a program that produces some really good material while discovering and developing some fantastic local talent!

Cristina Orlando – Assistant Director & Improv Coach

I am an actor and improvisor, born and raised in Windsor. I studied improv with The Second City (Detroit) where I graduated from the Improv Conservatory. I later went on to study and complete the Improv and Sketch Writing programs with The Planet Ant Theatre (Hamtramck MI). I have been working on stage for the past 35 years and Improvising for the last 17 years. I have written, produced, and performed collectively in numerous shows and as a solo artist in both Windsor and the US. I have a one woman show called CRISTINA NO h that I wrote, produced, and performed both in Windsor and Detroit. When I am not on stage, you can catch me in the kindergarten classroom as an ECE with GECDSB. Sharing the gifts that Improv provides as a mentor with ACT has been an absolute game changer for me. The feeling of ensemble grows exponentially with each rehearsal under the direction of Chris Rabideau and the team of ACT. Chris Rabideau moves from audition to stage with a solid integrity that creates not only a safe space but one of diversity. Watching Chris “empty his jug” as he workshops through each rehearsal has been a unique experience that has helped me grow as an artist, which I can then share with those that I mentor. Working with ACT is a definite win win situation for the team, cast and the audience.

Ian Smith – Musical Director

Ian McGregor Smith is a composer and performing artist of amazing diversity. Whether it be composing music for a film, conducting a full-scale musical theatre production or playing with his own jazz trio, Smith can be found at the helm, creating excellent music.

As a performer Ian has travelled to many different parts of the globe performing his own music at various festivals, concert halls, and clubs as a featured performer/artist. He has composed music for film, theatre, advertising jingles, festivals, musical artists, municipalities and more.  His innovative, cross-cultural musical collaboration with the traditional Japanese Ensemble “Shikandaza” explored the new musical language of “Japanese Jazz”.

In April/May of 2023 Smith will be an “Artist in Residence” in Kyoto Japan composing new music for his collaboration with Shikandaza. Smith now focuses his career on composition for film, television, animation and other media.
