Rent

October 9-25, 2016
Olde Walkerville Theatre

Synopsis

In 2015, ACT tackled the vocally challenging rock musical Rent and received rave reviews from the media and the Windsor/Essex County community. Half the cast had never been on stage before and ACT prides itself on taking risks and choosing to work with students who have a lot of potential and talent, but limited or no previous theatre training. The students also had the amazing opportunity to meet and work with Adam Pascal, who played Roger in the original production. Mr. Pascal coached the students on their acting and vocal skills and the event concluded with a group concert.

“Congratulations to the Arts Collective Theatre, Chris Rabideau and all the young men and women who made up the cast, support hands and musicians for RENT – it’s 2015 Student Intensive. I have experienced productions of Rent in the past twenty years in Toronto, Chicago, Detroit as well as another local version of it in the Windsor area and have seen it on the Big Screen. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that so many disciplined, talented and exuberant young people from the Arts Collective could have drawn tears from me throughout this production – tears of joy, sorrow, happiness and pride. Yet, they did. This is a special group of young people and they have a very special and committed leader and mentor in Chris Rabideau. Young people, you have a very bright future ahead of you. Countless times I have been effusive in my praise of Windsor’s Performing Arts talent pool spread among many fine community theatre groups. This production of Rent upholds and furthers that praise. The bad news is that the last performance of Rent in the wonderfully restored Walkerville Theatre on Wyandotte is Sunday, October 25th at 2:00pm – unless they could be convinced to encore it one more weekend. So folks, do yourself a favour and at the same time honour this amazing group of young actors by taking in this last performance….”

“This musical is incredible. I saw it last night, and it has completely re-defined the caliber of student performances. The best part for me, was surprisingly seeing someone I know, Tony Coates absolutely steals the entire show with his incredible emotionally charged role as Tom Collins. WOW. He completely blew me away. Today is the last show, it’s going to be packed again. Next year they are performing A Chorus Line and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. In case you didn’t know, Windsor’s theatre scene is worth getting into.”
